Naturally Colored Blend *********** Natural Lustrous White
$5.00 per ounce
Wool grown on our Farm from the unique and rare breed, Leicester Longwool. The wool is very lustrous and extremly durable. It is a coarse long wool and the yarns are often compared to mohair because of it's luster and strength. The Leicester Longwool can be colored, but my flock is all white. I prefer to use these wool yarns for outwear garments, blankets or tapestry. This rare breed is well worth the effort to raise and I hope you will try this yarn and realize the fine qualities of the Leicester Longwool. Washed locks are also available for crafts.

I have used a Border Leicester ram in the past to build up my ewe flock. I now have four cross bred ewes and they have provided me with some lovely wool. The Cotswold breed is considered a rare breed and is a highly useful dual purpose breed of sheep producing strong soft golden locks. The Bluefaced Leicester is a lovely breed of sheep and is known for their lustrous and soft longwool. I have crossbred ewes, having 1/2 or 1/4 BFL and 1/2 to 1/4 Cotswold. I blend this wool with exotics for a very luxurious yarn. I also sell washed locks which I refer to as "angel hair" that are natural or dyed in vibrant colors. These yarns are very durable and have a spring or memory due to the crimp in the fiber. The blending of exotic fibers allows for more softness, texture and color. This wool blend takes dye very well. I have used these yarns for knitting and weaving.

I like to use mohair and llama or alpaca fiber. I don't raise any of these creatures on my farm, so I buy from other fiber growers all around the country, but mostly in Massachusetts. Many interesting natural colors are created with these blends. Typically the blends are a 50/50 blend of wool and exotic. My main objective is color, so some blends will be less of the exotic, but rarely more than 50%.
