WELCOME TO CRANBERRY MOON FARM

The Farm

CRANBERRY MOON FARM is situated on 20 acres in Western Massachusetts, up in the hills where sheep used to roam between stonewalls and running streams. Today, a new flock of sheep and their shepherds carve out a place worthy of past homesteader's efforts. In true Yankee form, the pastures were reclaimed and brought back into use. Not a lot of topsoil, but plenty of slope. This landscape is made for sheep. The weather is tough, yet the sheep endure with their fine wool coats and hearty souls.

Ernie Zuraw bought the land back in 1984 and had a vision of homesteading this wooded and isolated parcel. It was all a dream back then, and he never imagined it could provide such abundance and pleasure. Ernie has worked at improvements and reclaiming the land for gardens and sheep pastures. It's been an ongoing project starting with the harvest of the timber for his timberframed home. The frame was carved by he and his brother and over the course of 5 years the house became a reality and a lovely comfortable home. Lisa joined Ernie in 1991 and put her efforts into developing the gardens and sheep. Together the farm has evolved, and still is evolving, into a sustainable small family farm. The basic intent of this farm is sustainability and to live in harmony with the natural enviornment while still developing a worthy agricultural business in sheep breeding and plant propagation.

Unfortunately, we do not have an "open farm" policy. We operate a closed flock of sheep and keep vistors to a minimum. Shepherds interested in learning more about our flock are welcome to call or email us with their inquiries. We can make arrangements for farm visits through this method.

Our woolwares are available through our website and at the special events we vend at each year. Our wool room is a working area and is not set up as a retail store at this time. Special arrangements can be made upon inquiry.

In addition to the sheep we have another business "West Cummington Stone & Wood ". Ernie Zuraw is the owner and his expertise is in Colonial Restoration of antique buildings. His speciality is masonry and plaster. If you'd like to learn more about West Cummington Stone & Wood click on the business name.
